Dayton Area Mensa Events
Dayton Area Mensa has events every month, and four events that take place yearly. All members (and guests) are welcome to attend. The Events Calendar Page lists the schedule of these events with additional information including contact information, maps and directions. If you want to know how to plan an event, that's one of the questions answered on our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Page.
Any Member is welcome and encouraged to organiza or host any activity for Dayton Area Mensa. You don’t need anyone's permission. The Steering Committee's job is to maintain the chapter's infrastructure (get the newsletter out, pay the postage bill, offer the qualification test from time to time, recruit new members etc.) and to see that there is one quarterly gathering or activity for the membership. Anything else that appears on the calendar of events is instigated by a member who cares enough to organize and host the gathering or activity. All one needs to do is to decide what, where, and when, and then send the information to the calendar editor, whose name and address appear in each MPULSE, by the published calendar deadline. See the current calendar for the general format of calendar entries. If you need any information or assistance, please contact the or any Steering Committee Member.
Cafe Sci is held on the first Wednesday each month at the Cox Arboretum Metro Park, 6733 Springboro Pike, Dayton. We explore science in a relaxed atmosphere with friends and neighbors from the Miami Valley. Increase your science savvy and join an open discussion. There are refreshments.
Games Night, typically on a Saturday, folks gather at the home of a member and spend the evening in good conversation, tasty snacks, play of old and new games, and stimulating conversation. For more information, read the Games Night FAQ PDF
Lunch Bunch gathers for lunch at an area restaurant during the second week of each month. The cuisine varies from Asian (Japanese and Chinese) to Italian, to Mexican, to American. An additional Lunch Bunch is held most months on a Saturday at a different venue.
Mensa Think Tank is a discussion group that gathers at an area library (check the calendar for specific date and location each month). You're welcome to being your own brown-bag dinner.
The New Members Dinner varies in venue and cuisine, but always provides an opportunity for new members to get together with current members to learn more about Mensa and enjoy good food and conversation. Dinner for any attending new members is covered by Dayton Area Mensa.
At the Out DAM Dinner, members gather at various area restaurants for an evening of experiencing new cuisines (or old favorites) and each others company. For more information, read the Out Dam Dinner FAQ PDF.
Steering Committee Meetings are normally held at an area restaurant and occasionally in a member's home. We meet monthly, normally on the first Thursday evening of each month, to plan programs and conduct the business and financial management of Dayton Area Mensa.
Awards Party. This party is an evening of camaraderie, good food, and handing out awards to members, including Dayton Area Mensa Volunteer of the Year. Traditionally, this party is held in Tipp City in November or December, at the home of one of our members.
Election Party. Held in early December, this get-together is to count the ballots for the Steering Committee election in a fun atmosphere of fellowship and good food, and is open all members.
Member Appreciation Picnic. Held on an autumn Saturday, members gather at one of the Dayton area Metroparks and enjoy lunch, recognition for contributions to DAM during the year, and typical picnic activities.
Our Regional Gathering (also known as DAMNations) is a very popular April weekend of seminars, partying, and fellowship at a Dayton hotel that is well-attended by Mensans from around Region 3 and beyond.
