Dayton Area Mensa Scholarship Program
Dayton Area Mensa participates in a scholarship competition that is conducted by the Mensa Foundation. Participants compete by writing an essay that describes the applicant's vocational, educational, or career goals. For more information about this program, go to the Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program web site.

The competition starts in September when the Scholarship Chair sends out notices advertising the competition. Students may download an application or write to this post office box:

The applicant then writes an essay and sends it to the Scholarship Chair at that post office box. Essays must be received in mid-January.

The Scholarship Chair then has the essays judged by three or more judges. The top essays from all the participating locals are then forwarded to the Regional Scholarship Chair and the judging process begins again. The top essays from all of the Regions are then sent to the National Scholarship Chair, where they are judged one last time.

The judging process is finished in April, and the Mensa Foundation Board of Trustees approve the list of winners submitted by the National Chair. The winners are then notified, and must submit proof of college enrollment.

During the competition, Dayton Area Mensa is guaranteed one scholarship of $300, but applicants are also eligible for Regional and National awards of up to $1000. Dayton Area Mensa also offers a locally-funded scholarship of $250.
